A look at our Safe Space, Anti-Plagiarism, and AI Art Policies

Safe Space Policy

The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo would like to reiterate that we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to harassment and inappropriate behavior in our community. Attendees, Exhibitors, and Staff are all subject to our anti-harassment policy. If a person engages in harassing behavior at MICE, we will take the appropriate action, up to and including removal from the show space for the entirety of the weekend. Please see our Safe Space Policy for additional details.

Our goal is for MICE to be a positive comics experience and celebration of art for all who would like to participate. All participants of the show are subject to these policies while at MICE or any MICE-sponsored events.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

Additionally, MICE does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. We are an organization that prides itself on providing resources and a platform for artists to share their work with the public. We have always taken a good faith approach that community members would adhere to the standards of integrity when it comes to plagiarizing other artists’ work. At this time, we feel it's important to commit to writing the following policy regarding plagiarism: Any exhibitor showing and selling material at MICE does so under the understanding that the work is original, does not misrepresent someone else’s work as their own, and does not infringe upon the copyrights or intellectual property rights of any third party.

AI/ML Stance

Furthermore, MICE has been steadily monitoring the rise of Machine Learning and AI generated art. We can affirm that it is our position that AI art is counter to the spirit of our festival and the support of our community of independent creators. We are developing a policy for our exhibitor and mini-grant application process reflecting this stance and will release it ahead of next year’s application window.

If you have any questions regarding any of these policies, please reach out to our team at mice@bostoncomicarts.org and we will take any appropriate action.
