Apply to exhibit

What we're looking for

MICE welcomes comic creators to apply between April 1 - 29 to exhibit at our 2024 show.

Our application guidelines help maintain a fresh, local, and comics-centered show, while working with the limited space of our venue. We are interested in providing our attendees with a healthy mix of local talent, exhibitors working in print comics, and with new work.

Once again, we will be giving priority to creators who have not exhibited at MICE in consecutive years to keep our roster fresh and equitable. Our goal is to maximize the diversity of our exhibitors in several senses of the word: diversity of genre, of styles, and of voices. Additionally, as the Boston area’s major independent comics show, we strive as much as possible to give a platform for local and regional creators. Using these criteria, the show will be fully curated by our jury.

We appreciate your understanding that while interest in MICE grows, our available space remains limited.

application guidelines

1) We need to review your comics

All applicants must submit a portfolio in PDF format with samples of your comics – we can't consider you without them! Here are some tips to which content to include in your portfolio:

  • Include finished interior pages in sequential order from the comics you plan to exhibit.  Too few pages and we can not get a sense of your work as a whole. Pages from too many comics will limit our ability to review all your works. For comics up to 24 pages, please share the entire thing. Put your best foot forward!

  • New material is always preferred. We accept works in progress at any stage as long as it's readable.

  • Include photos of your finished mini-comics or convention table set-ups.

  • Put your comics in a share drive or a single PDF.

2) Comics should count for the majority of your show material

While illustration and merch are certainly welcome, we are curating a comics-centered show.

3) Exhibit new comics

We give preference to applicants who are exhibiting new material. If you have any works in progress, we would love to see your pencils and thumbnails.

4) Consider applying for a Small Table Space

If you only have 1 or 2 comics to sell, apply for a 2 foot space at a small table. It’s a great option for students and newcomers.

5) Micro Publishers and Collectives: We need to read the work of those you’re representing.

Publishers or collectives applying to exhibit at MICE are required to share PDFs portfolios of any comics you’ll be presenting at the show. If you’re representing multiple artists, please note who plans to table with you at the show.

CREATOR PORTAL

The Boston Comic Arts Foundation has launched a new Creator Portal, on which we’ll be hosting the MICE applications. We’re extremely excited about how this new system will streamline applying to MICE not just this year but every year!

FAQs

I want to table with my friend. What should I do?

You should each submit your own application for an individual space of the same size. If you would like to table near specific creators, please note this in the application.Only collectives, print groups, and publishers should apply for full table spaces. Please don’t apply for a full table unless you’re sure this applies to you!

I want to share a small or half table space with a friend. Can I?

Sorry, no due to space constraints. If you would like to table near specific creators, please note in the application.

Applications are closed, but can I be put on the waiting list?

Sorry, but no! We do not accept any applications after the deadline (11:59 PM EST at 4/29/24). We hope you’ll apply next year!
