About the event
Graphic novels offer unique opportunities to develop students as active, analytical, and critical readers. This workshop explores practical strategies for using comics and graphic narratives to teach close reading, visual literacy, inference, and critical thinking. Participants will examine how metacomics and metafiction can make students more aware of the conventions of storytelling and their own roles as readers, creators, and critics. The session will also explore visual annotation, including concrete classroom examples, as a way for students to actively engage with and respond to graphic narratives. Participants will leave with practical strategies for using graphic novels to foster deeper reading, creativity, and critical engagement. Pre-registration is required for this panel, RSVP below.
