Mark Siegel is the founder of First Second, Macmillan’s graphic novel imprint, which offers an ambitious collection in every age category, in a wide range of themes and styles. First Second has published beloved and award-winning titles such as This One Summer, American Born Chinese, and Anya’s Ghost. In addition to editing, Mark is the author and illustrator of several picture books and graphic novels, including Moving House (Roaring Brook, 2011), Oskar and the Eight Blessings (Roaring Brook, 2015), and Eisner nominee Sailor Twain (First Second, 2012), which author John Irving called “a gripping novel with compelling characters, enhanced by haunting, erotically charged artwork.”
Mark’s latest project is the graphic novel 5 WORLDS (Random House, 2017), the first volume in an epic science-fiction series for young readers. The series is also an epic collaboration, written with his brother Alexis Siegel, and illustrated by Xanthe Bouma, Matt Rockefeller and Boya Sun.
Mark will appear in MICE’s Atrium exhibition area on October 21-22, 2017 at University Hall (1815 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA). MICE is free and open to the public.
